The Champion's Playbook: How one security leader made the business case for staff safety

How Beebe Healthcare's R.L. Hughes moved workplace violence prevention from a departmental concern to a system-wide investment, one stakeholder at a time.

Justin Green, VP of Product at Canopy, and R.L. Hughes, Director of Safety, Security & Sustainability, Beebe Healthcare

Every safety technology purchase has a champion who can see the value before anyone else does, and who then has to translate that belief into a business case for clinical, security, operations, and finance leaders. Each of those audiences needs to see something different before they'll say yes.

This session follows that journey through the eyes of someone who's lived it. R.L. Hughes, Director of Safety, Security & Sustainability at Beebe Healthcare, moved workplace violence prevention from a departmental concern to a system-wide investment, starting in the Emergency Department and expanding campus by campus.

The strategic agenda

Join R.L. Hughes and Canopy's VP of Product, Justin Green, as they break down what it actually took:

  • Building a coalition: which internal relationships a champion needs before the business case is written
  • Creating four pitches for one technology: how to translate a single technology into distinct pitches for clinical, security, operations, and finance stakeholders, and why each one needed different evidence
  • Using data that proves the case: how to use incident and operational data to prioritize rollout and build evidence as you go, not just justify a decision after the fact
  • Expanding a pilot to system-wide: how a single-department pilot became a campus-by-campus commitment without losing stakeholder buy-in along the way

You'll leave with a practical map for playing the same role inside your own organization.
